CASE STUDY
Supporting Findhorn Watershed Initiative to imagine a future of The Findhorn Bay from the perspective of Nature Restoration and Environment
Having spent the last 18 months focussed on developing river and woodland restoration opportunities in the upper catchment of the River Findhorn, the Findhorn Watershed Initiative is now making its way downstream to Findhorn Bay.
The local nature reserve of Findhorn Bay is well loved and celebrated as an internationally important area for migratory and wading birds, as well as for its salmon netting heritage. Now as part of developing a watershed restoration plan we ask ourselves: what other species and habitats of the Bay might benefit from some care and attention?
Context
What we did
We supported the the Findhorn Watershed Initiative and focused on seagrass carbon capture, which plays a vital role in coastal community resilience. Collaborating with the Nairn and Lossie Rivers Trust, this project explored how these ecosystems contribute to carbon storage and community futures, emphasising biodiversity’s economic and environmental potential. Feeldwork facilitated engagement through our Findhorn Bay Feeldkits asking the community to tell us about the Past, Present and Future of Findhorn Bay. We then developed a unique Futures provocation of what Swimming through Meadows might feel and look like in 2034 if Seagrass Nature Restoration was supported by the Rural-Coastal community of Findhorn today, this engagement supported the invigoration of that community.
